Hi Jeremy,

A friend and I were the only two people there when Stanley was shot. I saw it happen and was running toward them when the gunman turned toward me. He ran around a corner, behind a hedge, and a motorcycle gunned off a few seconds later, so I knew there was someone else waiting for him. I had to choose between chasing them or tending to Stanley. I was trained in CPR so I stayed. I couldn't save Stanley because he was hit in the upper chest - possibly the heart and/or windpipe - and he died in less than a minute. I was glad I stayed so he didn't have to die alone. I attended the memorial service and met Stanley's sister, a very kind but clearly broken-hearted lady. I told her that he didn't suffer long, which was true. It all happened so fast.

I found this story because I'm writing a book that the story of Stanley's death (and more importantly, his life) will be told in. Your father is an excellent writer. Thank you for posting this.

Haha Mr. Highlen is my high school economics teacher. That's so funny that he sent a berating message to Barry Bonds. I'm not surprised though. He's a old grizzly bear like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, and the campus is his lawn.

Robin, I totally agree! It's shocking enough that Fiona Ma basically admitted ignorance of the first amendment. But I did think it was really cool that she went to a rave to see for herself what goes on there. That's more than can be said for most politicians.

I agree the video title is misleading; this is the wrong hookup to the story.

The _actually_ shocking part (and this ties in AB74 with the political pressure that leads to arbitrary bans on pacifiers) is Fiona Ma stating that, while investigating possibilities of regulating events, they "found out later on that, constitutionally, you can not ban a type of music".

That is a statement I would expect to come across on theonion.com... she may as well have said "we found out later on that, constitutionally, you can't just put all black people in prison."

Saw this popup in my Twitter Feed. Great response, I love when media hypes things without ever even looking into it. Glad to see that there are still people who do their homework and respond in a formal manner.

On that note, if you can handle it, put your cup down and read the Fox News comments. I feel like pulling my hair out. Starnes's article plays perfectly into the paranoia that many who are having a hard time keeping up with change in this evolving society are facing.

P.S. The link to the UCD policy manual in the 4th paragraph is broken.
